Bill's Bus

Wednesday, May 07, 2003

Bill's new bus has finally arrived! Well, its not exactly new, but its new to him.

It is a 1963 Volkswagen Double-Cab Bus. Bill purchased it off a Volkswagen web site from someone in San Antonio, Texas. Bill will only be its third owner. Its first owner used it as a work vehicle on a timber farm and its second owner planned to restore but never did.

The bus has taken a couple of weeks to be delivered due to problems with the transport company and Bill has become quite anxious. In fact, he is so excited that he has been waiting on the street corner ever since the transport company called to confirm delivery earlier today, but now the bus is in sight.

As the truck turns the corner a hush falls over the "crowd". This is first time Bill or anyone else at Dogwood has seen the bus in person.

After Bill points out the bus to some of the less observant spectators, it is unloaded and placed in the garage.

The bus is still in good condition. Bill plans to tune up the engine, repair some rust spots and repaint the body.

The interior looks great and there are no rips or tears in the upholstery.

It even has the original tires! The previous owners stored them and used other tires on the bus. Of course, forty year old tires are not exactly road worthy whether or not they have been used so they will have to be replaced.

All thing considered, Bill is happy with the bus and hopes to have it restored to its past glory very soon.

Happy Motoring, Bill!
